Growing Puppies at Boleyn Cane Corso

All Boleyn puppies are all born in our "puppy room"; a dedicated, brick-built building situated in our grounds. I spend the first three/four weeks sleeping with mum and pups to ensure mum is happy and the pups thrive. They are subjected to family and household noises constantly, they have many visitors and my son is a permanent fixture inside the whelping box in these early stages. All Boleyn litters have the added bonus of being on webcam 24 hours a day, which enable new owners to watch their new family member grow and also allows them to watch the sometimes joy, sometimes harsh reality of whelping.

It is very important to raise happy puppies, with bags of confidence and no unnecessary fears. To achieve this they get subjected to different people and situations every day. When they reach 4 weeks of age they are allowed outside into the puppy play area and all of our adult dogs love to come and say hello to the new family members. My Chinese Crested, Boston Terrier and Italian Volpino love to play with the little ones, and in turn the little ones love to run around and explore the grounds. They are fed exclusively a raw diet, including chicken carcasses, tripe, fish, minced meats, organ meat and other naturally nutritional foods. My son plays a huge part in helping me raise my puppies and will spend many hours under supervision playing with them and helping me feed them their chicken bones by hand. All Boleyn puppies leave here heavily socialised, with basic manners and the building blocks of their future temperament already in place; all my owners realise the importance of carrying on with this and keep in very regular contact with me.

From every Boleyn breeding I keep back a male or female to forward my own breeding program, otherwise what is the point of breeding? My matings are never by chance; they are thoroughly researched out and I select the best combinations which sometimes takes me all over Europe. At Boleyn you can not only read about lines, you can touch them, meet them and love them. I am lucky enough to be able to own both foundation bitches in the form of Baila di Fosso Corno and Italian Champion Bora; mother and grandmother to my foundation line respectively. I also own Clio who is sister to Cocoon, a dog that I have based my second generation on. Also now a permanent fixture to Boleyn is Colprogrosso, son of It Ch. Bora and father of my first UK litter. Baila's mother Tolda del Murgese is still alive and well at Fosso Corno so many of my puppy owners have had the chance to meet 4 generations of my Fosso Corno line. You must go back into your lines before you can go forward and I am lucky enough to have my pedigrees sitting at my feet.

The Boleyn Customer Relationship

If you are interested in any forthcoming litters the first step should be to call me so that we can have an initial chat. I have very thorough and clear criteria that I would like all my owners to fit and unless both parties are 100% will not move on to the next stage, which is a visit to Boleyn. A visit here gives you the chance to meet all the dogs and even take them out if this is something you wanted to do, to see how they all interact with each other. It also gives you the opportunity to meet other Corso owners because there is always someone here at Boleyn from a past litter, and I would not have it any other way.

The breeding of Cane Corso is something that I do not take lightly. I have devoted my whole life to this breed, and at the moment all puppies sold are sold to NON-BREEDING homes, so if your plan is to breed the Corso I am really not the breeder for you, I have my own reasons for this and am happy to discuss them.

As a breeder I WANT to see all of the puppies I produce through the course of their lifetime and as time goes on in my breeding program its something I really have decided upon, so if your not one to keep in touch, I am really not the breeder for you.

All puppies leave here with their first vaccination and microchip, 4 weeks free pet insurance and a lifetime of support. You also will receive an extensive comprehensive (now even famous) puppy pack, containing the Boleyn Terms of Understanding, which is a contract both parties have to sign, me as a breeder and my commitment to you and you as a owner.

If anytime during the lifetime of the dog, your circumstances change and you have to re-home the dog, please bring it back to Boleyn where I always have people waiting for one of my Cane Corsos and together we could find the best home for your dog. I offer 24 hour a day advice and support in case of any problems that may arise and if you are experiencing troubles out of your control I am happy to take the pup back for a period of time and train it out of any undesirable behaviour.

I also am able to offer Corso Kenneling for clients with a Boleyn puppy at very reasonable rates.

Dogs at Boleyn

Since our move the dogs of Boleyn are subject to an indoor/outdoor life, they do have outside kennels, inside sleeping facilities and also each dog has access to our home and they are very much my pets. They come on the school run, shopping in the village, trips to the beach and they are all outstanding in every way, including behaviour and temperament. I love to spend time with them, training them in various forms of obedience and some in agility. They are all outstanding ambassadors for this wonderful breed. Some of my dogs are more protective than others, this is recognized at once and these dogs are given extra training and are given the job they love to do the most, protecting their family and their home, which they do with measure and aplomb.

Most males from the litters I produce are hip scored by their owners when they come of age to give me a greater deeper understanding of the hip health of my program. Some of my bitches I give away to homes, the reason is for this is so that I can choose the correct specimen to be able to move the breed forward - if the bitch is outstanding in both health, type and temperament then they may enter the Boleyn Breeding Program.

Having now shown at the European Dog Show and achieved great success, I am hoping to muster the courage to show in Europe more often, I do get so nervous I am scared I will fall over in the ring, but hopefully slowly but surely I will gain new confidence.

My Cane Corsos have changed my life, they keep me grounded they also keep me very busy organising days like the Cane Corso Discovery Day, Cane Corso Carting Day and creating the British Cane Corso Society. I hope these ventures will educate the general public and casual breeders as to the correct standard, health tests and character of the Corso - something that should be researched fully before embarking on ownership or any breeding program. The Corso is one of the most complex dogs to breed due to its recent recovery, small gene pool and subsequent health problems so by education, I am hoping to preserve this wonderful breed that has been handed down to us by our ancestors.
